Salute 2012 - part 2

It took a while getting here but the Salute 2012 part two video has finally been finished, We had a few problems with some corrupt and damaged clips, but these were eventually sorted out, and now the video is up on here and up on our website.

The part 2 video basically shows a small selection of the many great games that could seen at the show, we hope you enjoy watching.

Salute video - part 1

We may not be the fastest to get pictures up online, but we have some access that nobody else does. On the build day for the show, Friday 20th April, Romanas spent some time walking round with a video camera to get footage which would let you see what goes into setting up the largest club show in the country.

It shows the 8 hours of build in about 8 minutes; starting with the arrival of tables and going through to the evening when we had perhaps a little over half our traders in place for the show. There will be a 'part 2' in a few days...

We had over 100 games of various types at Salute 2012, and the sheer quality is enough to knock you out. Jim would like me to thank each and every club who brought a game to the show this year. We do recognise how much time and effort you put into realising your ideas, and we are amazed by the quality on show each year. Thank you.

We would like to thank every single gamer, painter, trader and significant other who came to Salute today. We were really pleased to see so many through the doors (recession, what recession?), and the whole place seemed to have a buzz this year - thank you!

I will be posting pictures from the show, the competitions and the painting over the next week or so, but for now, all I will say is that it was a great showcase for a hobby that we all love.

The TFL site now has all the information for this weekend's planned engineering works, and it looks like everything will be running. I'll be out there testing it tomorrow, as we start building the show from 9:00am.

What are they bringing to Salute (1)

MWS are bringing a 6mm game of the British Airborne assault on the Orne River and Caen Canal bridges on D-Day - plenty of pictures of the terrain, the troops and the buildings, with loads of construction details.

And there's also a great time-lapse video of the building of the boards.

Travel to Salute 2012

To plan your travel to Salute, have a look at the TfL website:  http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/realtime/tube/default.html shows the situation as it is now, but by setting Future Dates to the 21st April you can see what they have planned for us.

At present, there are no engineering works planned for the east of London. It looks like the DLR is okay to Custom House (Excel Centre) but one can never be 100%... so check the website again before the show!

Prizes for games at Salute 2012

Those very nice people at the Wargames Holiday Centre have kindly donated a pair of free tickets to be given away at this years show. This is a really great prize - just go to their website to look at the games they put on. And so, we thought that these two tickets would make a great prize for the best game at the show.

We would like to thank the centre for this kind donation, and wish good luck to all the games at the show this year.

Scarlet Thunder - rolling on

The Captain Scarlet rolling road game came down to the club last week for a test run. The Mysterons have a new secret weapon. They may gain temporary control of a target without having to destroy it before hand and they are trying it out.The world president is racing to get to London Airport to whisk him off to safety in an MSV (a Maximum Security Vehicle) driven by Colonel White and is accompanied by a body guard of 4 SPVs and 4 Spectrum patrol cars. Four players run a team each of one SPV and one Patrol car. These are the Red, Blue, Green and Yellow teams.There is also a Spectrum helicopter - but who knows if it has been Mysteronised…

 Colonel White is about to retire - this is his last mission - and he has made it known that whoever performs well in this mission, he will consider him as prime material as his replacement.The objective for the players is to look good in the eyes of Colonel White and get his job! To do this they must help in this the current mission and get the President in the MSV off of the game board and out of danger. The player who succeeds in doing this is the winner and will surely be the next colonel in charge of cloudbase. If the president in the MSV is killed, the winner is the one to get to the airport first by getting off the end of the board. But - if a Mysteronised player manages to kill the World President and Colonel White, that will probably mean a big Martian medel when he gets back home!So: will it be Colonel Scarlet or Captain Blue? Or will Captain Ochre rise form obscurity or Lieutenant Green get rapid promotion? Or has a player been taken over by the Mysterons has an ulterior motive: to kill the President? Only you can tell…

Salute 2012 figure - painted

The first pictures of the painted Salute 2012 figure have come back from club member Kevin Dallimore...

As I said, a really beautiful painted figure, and I can't wait to see more of them.

SLWarlord games at Salute 2012

I thought it was about time to show some more pictures of our own offerings for Salute 2012. We have two 'non-historical' games this time around; one set in the 40k universe and one in the Captain Scarlet background.

Captain Scarlet is a rolling road game; here are a few pictures you may not have seen.

The 40k game is set in a ruined city; again, pictures you won't have seen as Paul builds madly for April...

Black Library at Salute 2012

I know it's not to everyone's taste but I do enjoy science fiction, and since I play a bit of 40k, I am always interested to see what's coming out. Anyway, from Black Library's events page:

Black Library will have a stand at the Salute 2012 event in the London Excel Centre on the 21st of April. Authors Graham McNeill, Sarah Cawkwell and C Z Dunn will all signing copies of their latest novels. There will be a range of prerelease titles and Direct Exclusive books on sale.
