WAMP Awards 2011

We here at the South London Warlords would like to thank WAMP (the Wargames and Miniatures Forum) for voting Salute the best event of 2011. It's fantastic that such a great bunch of painters have seen fit to honour us like this, and we hope that we see you at Salute 2012. When you look at the shortlist, there are some fantastic shows there, and we're extremely chuffed here at the club. Thank you!

Salute 2011 in pictures

For those of you who are missing the bustle, excitement and the thunderous sound of hundreds of dice rolling that all made up Salute 2011, here's a little reprise. Our friends at RHQ-TV have posted up a couple of podcasts from the show. These include visuals of the gorgeous terrain and miniatures as well as interviews with famous and infamour individuals.

Episode 31a - includes views of the amazing Gallipoli battlefield

Episode 31b - more footage of the show and an interview with Mike McVey

Thanks to Andrew Galea for his efforts and endurance!

Various credit cards and a chequebook and a mobile were turned in. The cards and chequebook have already been returned to the various banks, and the mobile sent back to its owner.

We still have a ring which didn't get handed over to the ExCeL security team; if you think this might be yours, please call Robert on 020 7653 1970 or 07876 52 82 92.

Salute 2011 is over!!!

Well, Salute 2011 is over and our lives are getting back to normal. We at the South London Warlords would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to the show this year - to traders, to the clubs putting on the games, and particularly to you, the visitors.

We hope you had a great time at the show and that you managed to see everything you wanted. We have already started to put up the galleries of pictures on our website and on Facebook - there are, or will soon be, pictures of Salute ranging from the building of the show on Friday through to the close of the show on Saturday afternoon, including the games, the painting competition and the awards ceremonies.

So that you can start to plan for next year, the date of Salute 2012 will be the 21st April 2012. There will be much more information online as we get the planning underway.

New trader!!!

After one of our traders has had to pull out at the last minute, Steel Crown Productions have been drafted from the top of the substitutes list - have a look at their 6mm sci-fi goodness...

Two days to Salute

Well, there are just two days to Salute now. There will be lots of work going on at ExCeL tomorrow as two dozen of us put in the hours to build the place - tables, chairs, staging, cabinets - and then in the afternoon the traders start to arrive.

I will take a camera and get a series of photos during the build. Hopefully I can get them on this blog and the Facebook page tomorrow evening, in case anyone's interested in seeing some 'before and after' pictures of the show.

These were from last year... I'll take a camera rather than just my phone, this year...

Salute 2011 Painting Competition

NEWS FLASH!
http://coolminiornot.com has offered to sponsor the return air fare to the overall winner of the Salute 2011 painting competition to the Crystal Brush 2012

We’re ready to sponsor return air fare to the worthy winner of Salute 2011 painting competition to Crystal Brush 2012. They don’t have to compete at the CB 2012 (it’d be a bit odd not to after travelling all that way), but the prize is not transferable. Closer to the date of CB2012, the prize winner finds out the price of the ticket and we reimburse them*  - Chern An Ng, Director of www.coolminiornot.com

*This is due to airline restrictions mandating the person who paid for the ticket having to be present at the point of departure

Salute 2011 - new releases and deals 17

Show specials and new releases have been added to the Show Specials page for:

  • Pulp Monsters - the first British hero on sale at Salute

And we also have this from Beasts of War...

After a hectic few weeks, we've finally had time to arrange our trip to Salute this year. We're all really looking forward to it.

We were also planning to film some coverage of the event and perhaps grab a few interviews with some exhibitors, gamers and Warlords to give our viewers, unlucky enough not to be able to attend, an overview of the event and perhaps capture some of the atmosphere for them.

Salute 2011 - getting there!

As you know if you've been to Salute in the past, we are most easily accessed via the Docklands Light Railway - the DLR. At present there are no planned works on the DLR on Saturday, but here's the link if you want to keep an eye on it, or check your connecting tubes. Just choose 'Future Dates' and set it for Saturday 16th April 2011.

Also, for those of you coming in for the weekend remember that London has the Marathon on Sunday, 17 April... http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/londonmarathon/

See you there,
Colin

Salute 2011 - GZG

From Jon at GROUND ZERO GAMES (GZG): SALUTE NEWS AND INFO:

Those of you who are regular customers of ours will know that we've been having some major changes going on since the last SALUTE, with a move of workshop last year followed by the busiest Christmas period
we've ever experienced, and now we are in the middle of a complete re-working of our webstore (which is why we've been closed to mailorders since the beginning of March, more on this below).

The most important thing is that we WILL be at SALUTE! We're on stand TJ15, our usual spot on the central aisle not far from the Bring and Buy area. When you come in the main entrance, go straight ahead to
the Warlords info stand in the middle of the hall, then turn RIGHT. After all the changes and upheavals we've gone through in the last few months, preparations for this year's show have been terribly rushed and last-minute; at this point I am still casting frantically to get enough stock done, and I'm prioritising the lines that I know are the most popular.  IF there is time next week I will get onto the other stuff, but I can't guarantee it - so my apologies in advance if we don't have every single thing in our range.

Important stuff to note for SALUTE this year:

1) SORRY, BUT NO CARDS! We will NOT be able to process credit/debit card payments at the show; we have been able to take cards in previous years, but due to being in the middle of the changeover to
online processing for our new webstore, we won't be able to take them at the show this year. So it is CASH ONLY this time I'm afraid - the good thing is that it will speed up the serving of customers, because processing cards at the show takes ages and slows everything down! While on the subject of serving customers, please remember that GZG is a one-man business (me!) and therefore the helpers I will have on
the stand are friends who have volunteered for that day only, they will do their best under pressure but please be patient and polite. :-)

2) As the new store isn't going to be online until AFTER Salute, we have no facility to take pre-orders this year; I do hope to have reasonable stocks of most of our regular items, but everything is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, and once stocks are gone then they're gone! This will especiallyapply to any NEW items I can get done in time (see below), which may be in limited supply - so please make us one of your first stops once you get in to the hall.

3) All our PRICES at SALUTE are being held at our old pre-increase levels, as promised earlier - most prices have got to go up when the new site goes live, so don't miss this chance to get the stuff you want at the old prices!

4) NEW STUFF: well, I still hope there will be some - but I can't tell you what, as they are still waiting to be cast! I'm hoping that in the last few days before the show, once as much of the regular stock as possible has been replenished, I can get at least a couple of moulds' worth of new items made and some stock spun out of them. It'll be right down to the wire, some of it may still be hot from the casting machine when it gets packed in the van..... What I can tell you is that anything I manage to get done will be in the 15mm range - sorry to all the FT fans, I do promise to get back to you before too much longer! Exactly what gets made is in the lap
of the Gods, and there certainly won't be any time to preview or announce it here or anywhere else, so you'll just have to come along and see what we have on the day.

Best regards, and thanks again to everyone for your patience - I sincerely hope that everything will be back to normal soon!

For more info, please access our site via www.gzg.com - the "old" store is still up there for browsing and news posts while the new one is being worked on.

Jon (GZG), Friday April 8th.
