Black Library will have a stand at the Salute 2012 event in the London Excel Centre on the 21st of April. Authors Graham McNeill, Sarah Cawkwell and C Z Dunn will all signing copies of their latest novels. There will be a range of prerelease titles and Direct Exclusive books on sale.

Merry Christmas! And as a present from Salute, here is the first picture of the 2012 Salute figure.

It has been sculpted by the very talented Jacques-Alexandre Gillois of Miniature Studio, and it's themed on the end of the 13th B'ak'tun of the Mayan Long Count Calendar.

And you know what - I am really excited about seeing a few painted examples in 2012 - I think this is going to be a real painters' dream!

Paul has been a very busy chap... here are a couple of WIP photos of the game table. The first two are “step one”, with the basic shape of the raised area cut out of polystyrene insulation boards. The next three, “step two”, show the exposed front edges have been faced with card arches. These are sized to line up with the standard GW wall sections which will run along the top edge of both steps.

Not as far along as the Rolling Thunder game from earlier this week, but I thought people might be interested in the whole process of creating a display game. This is one of PaD's concept sketches from the first design for the layout; it'll be interesting to see how similar the final board ends up looking.

As the build goes on, PaD is going to take plenty of photographs, so there will be a log of how it all comes together...

The Warlords' Captain Scarlet game, based on the Thunder Road board game, is taking shape and will be featured at Salute 2012.

The final board will be about 4.5m long and will 'switch' as vehicles progress down it.

The game:

Can Colonel White escort the World President to London Airport in a convoy of SPVs, SPCs and an MSV before Mysterons wreak their deadly havoc? Find out in Scarlet Thunder at Salute 2012

Set in the Gerry Anderson world of the TV series Captain Scarlet, this is a road race game with violence – though all in a good cause! Using an adaptation of the board game Thunder Road, this game will allow up to four players to try and beat the Mysteron threat and ensure that the World President and Spectrum commander in chief Colonel White make it all the way along the motorway to ‘London Airport'.

Using the Thunder Road's ‘rolling road' system, players will have control of their own Spectrum vehicles – the sleek Spectrum Patrol Car and the heavy, multi-wheeled Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle – and have the duty of escorting the heavily armoured Maximum Security Vehicle on their journey. Players have an individual task: in addition to protecting their President, Colonel White is about to retire and each player team wants to do well on this mission and so put themselves in a prime position to get his job!

The four player teams – Team Red (Captain Scarlet and Captain Magenta), Team Yellow (Captain Ochre and Captain Brown), Team Blue (Captain Blue and Captain Indigo) and Team Green (Captain Emerald and Lt. Green) have to negotiate slow moving traffic on their dangerous, high-speed mission but an added factor is also present. The Mysterons have vowed to kill the World President, destroy Spectrum and bring Earth to its knees in revenge for attacks on their home world.

During the game they will try and wrest control of Spectrum agents and their vehicles – even Spectrum helicopters – as well as civilian vehicles to try and achieve their terrible vengeance.

Salute tickets on sale now!

Tickets for Salute 2012 (21st April 2012) are now on sale from the club website ( salute.co.uk ) if you follow the Twenty Twelve link on the left, or from the blog ( look above for the 2012 page).

We have held the price this year; £10 for tickets bought in advance, which gets you your entrance to the show, and of course the exclusive Salute figure. In 2011 we had 130+ traders and 90+ games, and we're hoping for the same again in 2012.

Space Hulk - 3d

The last Monday of each month is typically a 'party game', and October's game was Space Hulk. Paul D has spent a lot of the summer painting up a lot of plastic corridor sections, and they got a good first run-out at the club.

I believe there were ten players with Terminator squads working their way up the board, and several 'stealer players trying to stop them.

As always, if you are interested in joining the Warlords, get in touch. It's best to send an email to the membership.secretary@warlords.org.uk if you're aiming for a place in big game, since they are not unlimited, but we will always try to make space for visitors.

Normal gaming for most evenings this month, but a couple of things members should know about:

17th October - scenery evening. The club won't be open for gaming tonight as it's the annual scenery inventory and refurbishment. But there will be pizza (if you sign up in advance so Dave knows how many to order...)

24th October - Paul D will be running a Space Hulk party game over the fantastic 3D scenery he's spent the summer painting up! Sign up with Paul to get a place at the table.

Warlords Display Team at Skirmish 2011

'Skirmish' is a local show to many of the Warlords; it's at a school in Sidcup, and attracts about a dozen games and about 25 traders of wargames and toy soldiers. A Warlords display team lead by Ian Spence took the Battle of Ayacucho along to support the show.

The Battle of Ayacucho in Peru occurred between the Royalists (Spanish) and Patriots during the South American Wars of Independence (1808–1829). Also known as the Battle of the Generals, it was fought on December 9, 1824, on the high plain in southern Peru and ended in victory for the forces seeking independence from Spain.

The terrain was constructed based on some contemporary maps of the battle and the use of modern technology. Google Earth and photos of the area were used and we consulted some South American experts who explained how the battlefield looked. The figures are all plastic 1/72 , from various leading manufacturers HaT, Zvezda, Strelets and Italeri. We have been using Dave Brown’s Generale de Brigade for Napoleonic battles, for many years. The second version was released in 2010 and became even more popular with us as various tweaks in the rules allowed smaller units of 15-20 figures to be represented in a realistic way.

Although other Spanish colonies in America had already been granted independence, Spain sought to hold Peru because of its considerable mineral wealth and the largely apolitical attitude of its people. In 1823, however, revolution and upheaval in Spain created widespread dissension among the Spanish forces in Peru. In 1824 Patriot leader Simón Bolívar and General Antonio José de Sucre took advantage of this and opened a military offensive, hoping to retake Lima from the Royalists.

After prolonged maneuvering during the autumn of 1824, the two sides came together in battle on the Plain of Ayacucho, 186 miles southeast of Lima. Spanish Viceroy José de La Serna y Hirojosa commanded the Royalist force of some 9,300 men and seven guns. Sucre had 5,780 men and two guns. Both sides had some cavalry.

In the maneuvering before the battle, La Serna managed to position his force north of Sucres army, hoping to cut the Patriots off from the sea and additional forces that Bolívar was raising in Lima. La Serna tried to employ his superior numbers to advantage by encircling his opponent, but Sucre avoided this, taking up an excellent defensive position on the plain. La Serna then planned to pin the enemy flanks while finishing off the Patriots with a drive into the center of their line. Sucre planned to allow La Serna to attack, hoping that he would be able to first contain the attack and then exploit it with a reserve of three battalions of infantry and five cavalry squadrons.

The battle opened early on the morning of December 9. The Royalist left wing advanced first against the Patriot right wing commanded by General José Maria Córdoba. This attack failed, as did another Royalist assault on the Patriot center. Córdoba then counterattacked, driving back the Royalist left and opening a break in the Royalist lines that allowed Sucre to introduce his infantry and cavalry reserves to seal the victory. The entire battle had lasted less than an hour and a half.

Despite being outnumbered, Sucre had won a complete victory. The Royalists lost 1,400 dead and 700 wounded, while the Patriots sustained 309 dead and 607 wounded. Particularly grievous for the Royalist cause was the large number of senior officers—including 15 generals, 16 colonels, and 68 lieutenant colonels— among the 2,500 Royalists taken prisoner. For this reason the engagement is sometimes called the Battle of the Generals. La Serna, who had received a half dozen wounds, was among those captured.
Under the terms of capitulation, La Serna agreed to withdraw all Spanish forces from Peru. Sucre then moved into upper Peru. In August 1825 he declared the province of Chuquisaca independent and renamed it Bolivia, in Bolívar’s honor. Although fighting by small isolated Spanish units continued thereafter, the Battle of Ayacucho marked the effective end of the South American Wars of Independence.

The Game
The terrain was constructed based on some contemporary maps of the battle and the use of modern technology. Google Earth and photos of the area were used and we consulted some South American experts who explained how the battlefield looked. The accounts that exist are not very helpful as Sucre fails to mention the gully in his account. The gully or quebradas as it is called in South America is the key battlefield feature and it plays a vital role in preventing the Spanish from using their greater numbers to overwhelm the Patriots. It presented a particular problem as we had to make it a nice feature, but also had to make it clear for gaming purposes where it started and finished. The quebradas aside the terrain is flat and uninteresting, not a tree in sight! The Board is made of high density foam board used for roof insulation on a 10mm MDF base.This gives it solidity and stops it from warping.

The Figures
The figures are all plastic 1/72 , from various leading manufacturers HaT, Zvezda,Strelets and Italeri . The decision to use plastic, rather than metal was a cost and weight one at first. However, it was also a practical decision as we realized he amount of work required to get the armies we wanted. Nobody, when we started, did a commercial range of figures in 1/72. It also shows that starting up in wargaming does not have to cost a lot of money.

The Napoleonic ranges from these manufacturers offer nearly all you need to field the main armies of the period. Where there are gaps, a bit of conversion work was required. For the infantry, the main conversion work was with the shakos. For the artillery it was a case of removing particular distinctive items and also making sure that the very light calibre guns were represented correctly (no 12pdrs here !) For the cavalry there was a great deal more conversion work required. A large number of the units in this period were lance armed, so we had to replace the sabres and carbines with metal lances. One particular unit though required far more work

The Dragons de Peru, in the Spanish Army, wore a uniform that was part Carabinier and part Hussar. This resulted in using Hussar bodies and replacing all of the heads with Carabinier ones, using the cut/pin/superglue process. These were then mounted on the Carabinier horses. There are cavalry units on the Patriot side that required combining various sets of figures and cutting and pinning arms as well. We would like to draw your attention to the Command figures on display. Most of these are one-off conversions by Martin, and are rather nice!

The Rules
We have been using Dave Brown’s Generale de Brigade for Napoleonic battles, for many years. The second version was released in 2010 and became even more popular with us as various tweaks in the rules allowed smaller units of 15-20 figures to be represented in a realistic way. The QRS that we are using today was amended for Liberators by our group and is available as a download from the Generale de Brigade Forum - see Rules updates on right hand side.

The August recess is drawing to a close, and the South London Warlords open the doors on some semi-serious gaming again tomorrow.

5th September - The first club night of after the summer.

12th September - Club B&B in the back hall - take the opportunity to clear out the cupboards and the loft. Normal gaming in the main hall.

19th September - Club painting competition. Three categories this time - Historical ('Don't forget the cavalry'), Fantasy/Sci-fi ('Teams, gangs and warbands') and Open (anything painted since the last competition at the end of May).

26th September - Harry will be running a Wings of War party game.

Big Game Saturday 16/07/11

Despite the apalling weather in the real world a group of Warlords had another great Big Game Saturday. THe usual 40K crowd turned up with 8000 points per side - certainly not the size of game we could fit into a Monday evening!

John-Paul (Orks), Jim (Orks) and Warren (Dark Eldar) took to the field against Chris B (Space Marines), Steve (Tau) and Chris S (Eldar). The Orks brought out the big guns in the form of a rather nicely painted Squiggoth (credits to John-Paul).

The forces of order faced an uphill battle in such a target-rich environment and the Orks/Dark Eldar certainly played to their strengths, getting the first turn and speeding towards their anxious opponents. Despite the heroic forward actions by the Marines and the withering firepower coming from the Tau machines the latter turns of the game became an exercise in objective denial, as can be seen by the Tau's attempt at parallel parking.

In the final event, the forces of disorder triumphed on the day. Units of the match? The Tau performed valiantly in the centre, eventually vanquishing the Squiggoth, and the Ork Rocket Boyz expertly harried the flanks. One notable mention in dispatches goes to Chris Barrass's Space Marine Sargeant who, with massive bravura, destroyed a large squad of greenskins with only his combat blade!

As you may know, Hammers Slammers: The Crucible was jointly written by club member John Treadaway, and a group of Warlords have been taking a couple of quite outstanding tables round the show scene in the last couple of months.

SLW Hammers Slammers game at Sheffield 2011

A small (but perfectly formed) team of Warlords took the Hammers Slammers game to Sheffield last weekend, picking up an award while they were there. Special mentions for John Treadaway (rules) and Roger Dixon (much of the scenery), but all models and scenery by the South London Warlords.

There were two separate games on the two days using completely different 15mm forces and 80% different scenery for both days (the custom made cloth remained the same).

Taban Miniatures at the club

The closing date for Constitutional Proposals to be with the Secretary is 5 weeks before this date; i.e. next Monday 23rd May.

AGM packs will go out to members 3 weeks before the meeting.

Think about standing for a position on committee, its quite a nice feeling to give something back to the club that gives you so much.

Attached is the scenario for this round. Please read this carefully, taking note of the primary and secondary objectives. I won’t be my fault if you forget the objectives and lose. Also don’t forget to take a note of the kill Points both sides score during the game. While these will not be used to determine the winner (in this scenario) they will be used to break ties on the tournament table.

The deadline for your results will be Monday 20th June. Again this is five weeks rather than four due to the bank holiday. If your unable to play your game please let me know ASAP or you could end up scoring zero for the round.

NOTICE TO ALL WARGAMING CLUBS

Firstly I would like to thank all those Clubs who attended Salute on Saturday 16th April 2011, and hope you all had a good day. I think this year was one of the best ever, with many great looking and enjoyable games.

We are starting to plan for next year, and that brings me to the reason for this message. Last year we decided to send out the invitations by e-mail as it seemed the easiest thing to do at the time. However, club committees, and therefore club contacts, change.

If you are interested in putting on a game at Salute 2012 on 21st April 2012, please can you confirm your club’s preferred contact and the contact details (e-mail and postal address). And of course, if your contact details change (contact person, addresses or anything else), please let me know so that I can update records.

This way, we should be able to contact everyone who is interested for next year’s show.

Salute 2011 is over!!!

Well, Salute 2011 is over and our lives are getting back to normal. We at the South London Warlords would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to the show this year - to traders, to the clubs putting on the games, and particularly to you, the visitors.

We hope you had a great time at the show and that you managed to see everything you wanted. We have already started to put up the galleries of pictures on our website and on Facebook - there are, or will soon be, pictures of Salute ranging from the building of the show on Friday through to the close of the show on Saturday afternoon, including the games, the painting competition and the awards ceremonies.

So that you can start to plan for next year, the date of Salute 2012 will be the 21st April 2012. There will be much more information online as we get the planning underway.

Well, there are just two days to Salute now. There will be lots of work going on at ExCeL tomorrow as two dozen of us put in the hours to build the place - tables, chairs, staging, cabinets - and then in the afternoon the traders start to arrive.

I will take a camera and get a series of photos during the build. Hopefully I can get them on this blog and the Facebook page tomorrow evening, in case anyone's interested in seeing some 'before and after' pictures of the show.

As you know if you've been to Salute in the past, we are most easily accessed via the Docklands Light Railway - the DLR. At present there are no planned works on the DLR on Saturday, but here's the link if you want to keep an eye on it, or check your connecting tubes. Just choose 'Future Dates' and set it for Saturday 16th April 2011.

Salute 2011 - GZG

From Jon at GROUND ZERO GAMES (GZG): SALUTE NEWS AND INFO:

Those of you who are regular customers of ours will know that we've been having some major changes going on since the last SALUTE, with a move of workshop last year followed by the busiest Christmas period
we've ever experienced, and now we are in the middle of a complete re-working of our webstore (which is why we've been closed to mailorders since the beginning of March, more on this below).

The most important thing is that we WILL be at SALUTE! We're on stand TJ15, our usual spot on the central aisle not far from the Bring and Buy area. When you come in the main entrance, go straight ahead to
the Warlords info stand in the middle of the hall, then turn RIGHT. After all the changes and upheavals we've gone through in the last few months, preparations for this year's show have been terribly rushed and last-minute; at this point I am still casting frantically to get enough stock done, and I'm prioritising the lines that I know are the most popular. IF there is time next week I will get onto the other stuff, but I can't guarantee it - so my apologies in advance if we don't have every single thing in our range.

Important stuff to note for SALUTE this year:

1) SORRY, BUT NO CARDS! We will NOT be able to process credit/debit card payments at the show; we have been able to take cards in previous years, but due to being in the middle of the changeover to
online processing for our new webstore, we won't be able to take them at the show this year. So it is CASH ONLY this time I'm afraid - the good thing is that it will speed up the serving of customers, because processing cards at the show takes ages and slows everything down! While on the subject of serving customers, please remember that GZG is a one-man business (me!) and therefore the helpers I will have on
the stand are friends who have volunteered for that day only, they will do their best under pressure but please be patient and polite. :-)

2) As the new store isn't going to be online until AFTER Salute, we have no facility to take pre-orders this year; I do hope to have reasonable stocks of most of our regular items, but everything is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, and once stocks are gone then they're gone! This will especiallyapply to any NEW items I can get done in time (see below), which may be in limited supply - so please make us one of your first stops once you get in to the hall.

3) All our PRICES at SALUTE are being held at our old pre-increase levels, as promised earlier - most prices have got to go up when the new site goes live, so don't miss this chance to get the stuff you want at the old prices!

4) NEW STUFF: well, I still hope there will be some - but I can't tell you what, as they are still waiting to be cast! I'm hoping that in the last few days before the show, once as much of the regular stock as possible has been replenished, I can get at least a couple of moulds' worth of new items made and some stock spun out of them. It'll be right down to the wire, some of it may still be hot from the casting machine when it gets packed in the van..... What I can tell you is that anything I manage to get done will be in the 15mm range - sorry to all the FT fans, I do promise to get back to you before too much longer! Exactly what gets made is in the lap
of the Gods, and there certainly won't be any time to preview or announce it here or anywhere else, so you'll just have to come along and see what we have on the day.

Antietam-Turning Point of the Civil War

As this year's theme is American Civil War, here is a quick article on the background and the troops involved, and why Antietam was the turning point of the war and was chosen for the SLW Main theme game. For an indepth look a the battle, see Paul William's article in the programme.

In September 1862, Confederate General Robert E. Lee was to take the war to the Yankees and make the North fight on their own land for a change. This was to culminate in one of America’s bloodiest battles on its own soil .
The town of Sharpsburg was a modest size in 1862 with fertile Pastures in the surrounding area, where, many small farms dot the landscape, but in September 1862 these quiet settlements were to have 120,000 Union and Confederate soldiers fighting over every fence, every track and every ear of corn .
Why was it a turning point in the struggle of North and South, it was the Unions first major victory to date and with that victory. Shortly after the battle, Abraham Lincoln announced the Emancipation Proclamation, which proclaimed the freedom of 3.1 million of the nation's 4 million slaves, and immediately freed 50,000 of them, with the rest freed as Union armies advanced. Lincoln then announced that he would issue a formal emancipation of all slaves in any state of the Confederacy that did not return to Union control by January 1, 1863.
Antietam also brought the horror of the war to the people in that it was the first time the dead soldiers were photographed.

The two Armies:

General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia’s 55,000 troops were organized into two large infantry corps of ten infantry divisions, made up from forty infantry brigades.
The First Corps, the right wing under the command Major General James Longstreet, consisted of the six divisions:
The Second Corps, the left wing under the command of Major General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, consisted of the four divisions.
The remaining units were the Cavalry Corps, under Major General J.E.B. Stuart, and the reserve artillery, commanded by Brigadier Gen. William N. Pendleton. The Second Corps was organized with artillery attached to each division, in contrast to the First Corps, which reserved its artillery at the corps level.

The Union’s Army of the Potomac’s 85,000 troops, commanded by Major General George B. McClellan, consisted of six infantry corps, divided up into nineteen divisions, made up from forty six infantry and five cavalry brigades, which also included units absorbed from John Pope's Army of Virginia .

Steve from the Overlords podcast contacted me about two weeks ago about the opportunity to use a side room at Salute to do some recording. They are bringing two games to the show, and we had a chat about what they were doing and what we were doing.

While we were chatting, he asked about recording a section on Salute, which we sorted out that evening. There is some discussion about the organisation of Salute, and about what is coming at the show. Empress Miniatures are pleased to announce a significant number of products across most of their current ranges.

First off is a brand new range for the Maori Wars, 1845/6. Sculpted by the talented Paul Hicks, the release will be around 40 figures and covering British infantry and militia, civilians, and a naval rocket unit fighting against the tongue poking, heavily tattooed, Maoris.

Our Zulu War range gets some much needed reinforcements with the release of a RA Gatling guns and a command group including M’Lord Chelmsford, Crealock and the reporter NOGs. Also some more packs of Boers, this time dismounted.

Onto our ultra moderns and we will have some brand new very bad guys to support the Taliban forces as well as about 16 new British infantry. Sculpted by Tony Boustead in the most incredible detail possible these figures are really amazing. Even if you do not wargame the period come and have a look at the figures.

Staying in the Modern Zone please keep your eyes open for the new release of the Osprey / Ambush Alley rules and scenario books. Salute 2011 - calling all podcasters

If you are intending to bring your podcast recording equipment to Salute next month, get in touch with us. We have secured several small rooms off the main show space for our use. They usually get used for things like changing rooms for the re-enactors, but (assuming there is some interest) we thought it would be useful to offer one to the podcasters to use during the day. It's not large - enough room for a table and some chairs - but it's enough to let you sit somewhere quiet to do an interview.

The Battlefront group of companies will be out in force again at this year’s Salute, and, as in previous years, our focus will be on showcasing a range of participation games which will be both visually great to look at and fun and exciting to play in. FLAMES OF WAR OPEN FIRE!

FLAMES OF WAR VIETNAM - RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE
Love the smell of Napalm in the morning? Then we’ve got some great tabletop action for you - come and join in with a game of Flames of War: Vietnam. Using the ‘Contact! Contact!’ scenario from your free Tropic Lightning Intelligence Handbook, you can either command a team of US troops as they valiantly race to rescue the crew of a downed helicopter, or launch your Tieu Doan Bo Binh Vietnamese infantry in an ambush against the foreign invader.

FLAMES OF WAR BLITKRIEG - RIDE THE RAILS
Get behind the wheels of a WWII Armoured Train and ride the rails as it steams through the Polish countryside, guns blazing, in a pitched battle against the German 4. Panzerdivision. This game of Flames of War: Blitzkrieg is based on the ‘Cavalry against Panzers’ article from WI281, set during the German invasion of Poland, and it’s a great introduction to the Early War period.

GALLIPOLI 1915 - THE BATTLE OF LONE PINE
This year’s Wargames Illustrated Game takes us to the beaches and killing grounds of Gallipoli. This stunningly sculpted terrain board has been designed in association with Grand Manner and features a level of detail rarely seen on a wargames table. As well as being a great spectacle, our Gallipoli table will be buzzing all day with wargaming participation action. Club 40k Tournament 2011

SOUTH LONDON WARLORDS
Warhammer 40,000 Tournament 2011

As you are probably aware, Mike has decided to take a break from organising our annual 40K tourney this year, after having done it for the past eight years or so. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Mike for his past efforts . it's always been fun! Anyway, being the only other 40K player in range when he first mentioned this, it somehow now falls to me to keep the tradition going. So without further ado, I give you the South London Warlords Warhammer 40,000 Tournament 2011! Though I should warn all potential players right from the start that things will be a little different this year (a new broom and all that)

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The Tournament will be played over six rounds, with approximately four or five weeks being allowed for each round. (Specific deadlines will be announced along with each draw.) If you can not commit to playing one game a month for the duration of the tournament please don't waste my time or other competitor's time by signing up.

ARMY LISTS
Players should provide a typed army list at least one week before the start of the Tournament to allow for validation. The armies shall be of no more than 1750 points and must be taken from the latest current GW Codex and must follow the standard Force Organisation Chart. In addition, players will be allowed one (and only one) 'regular' Forgeworld vehicle or unit i.e. not Super Heavy Vehicles, Gargantuan Creatures, Flyers etc. These must be taken from either White Dwarf or the printed Forgeworld Imperial Armour books (not 'experimental rules' taken from the GW or Forgeworld Web Site) If in doubt, please check with me before including your vehicle/unit in your army. No other lists will be allowed. Players will be expected to use the exact same army list for the duration of the Tournament.

SCENARIOS
Each round will have a specific scenario which will be sent out along with the draw. These scenarios will NOT be available in advance and will only be sent out at the start of each round. The scenarios being used will be taken from a number of sources such as the Battle Mission Expansion Book, GW web site, my own fevered imagination, etc, etc. The Attacker/Defender, Victory Conditions (such as Kill Points, Objectives, etc.), and any Special Rules being used will vary from round to round. It is also entirely possible that some scenarios may favour one type of army over another (i.e. 'Gun Line Armies' or 'Close Assault Armies') this is entirely deliberate on my part, so suck it up soldier!! As such, it would be advisable to make your army as 'balanced' as possible to ensure you have the best chance of achieving the varied victory conditions for each scenario.

HOUSE RULES
Obviously, all games will be played using the current 5th Edition rules (subject to official GW errata and FAQs). The official rules errata and FAQ are available from the Games Workshop web site. I strongly suggest that you gain access to these documents. Players are free to use any 'House Rules' they wish (4th Edition 'Line of Sight' springs to mind; hint, hint!) as long a both players agree before the start of the game. Also please make sure both sides agree on the terrain and its effects on the game before you start.

FIGURES
Please try and ensure that your army presents a 'WYSIWYG' . 'what you see is what you get' look as much as possible. Excessive use of proxies, incomplete models, substitutes (such as bases) and 'counts as' models that are substantially different from that which they are intended to represent will not be allowed. All armies should be painted, ideally before the start of the tournament, but at the very least, by the end. Any incomplete or unpainted figures or vehicles WILL be subject to certain penalties in the final scenario (You have been warned!). 'Painted' for these purposes means at least three or four main colours and suitably based.

TOURNAMENT POINTS
The number of Tournament Points players receive for each game will depend on the scenario being played and the level of victory/defeat. Some rounds may be worth more Tournament Points than others; the number of points each player receives for each round will be detailed on the scenario sheet, along with any bonus points that may be available. In addition to the various Victory Conditions set out in each scenario, players will also be required to take note of the number of Kill Points (KPs) scored every round. Players score 1 KP for each unit, independent character, monstrous creature or vehicle destroyed or fleeing at the end of the game, and . KP for each unit reduced to 50% or less of its starting strength, each independent character or monstrous creature reduced to half or less of its starting number of wounds or each immobilised vehicle. Unless the scenario says different, these Kill Points will not go towards the players Tournament Points, but will be used to break any ties on the leader board.

RESULTS
All results should be either written down and handed to me on any Monday night or alternatively e-mailed to me. It is no good wandering over at the end of a club night and just telling me about it. I WILL have forgotten all about it by the time I get out of the hall, no matter how exciting you may think the result is! Results handed in after the deadline for each round will NOT count, and both players will score zero for that round. If for any reason you are unable to play a particular round before the deadline, please let both me and your opponent know at least a week before the deadline. Anytime later than that is just bloody rude and you will receive zero points regardless of the reason.
After all six rounds have been completed; there will hopefully be a small prize for the winner/runner up and also for 'Best Painted Arm'. In the case of a dispute, the tournament organiser's decision is final and no discussion will be entered into (even if I am completely and utterly wrong) so there!!

Hopefully, the first round matches will be announced the following Monday (4th April) to be completed by 9th May (Though this may have to slide a little due to the Bank Holidays). All draws, results, scenarios and tournament standings will be sent out via email and/or posted on the Warlords Forum each month. Of course I wouldn't exclude anyone from taking part if they don't/won't/can't use either or both of these methods to communicate, but it would make my life MUCH easier if you can. Thanks.

Salute 2011 - Black Library

This year we are very pleased to welcome Black Library to our show. They, along with Forgeworld, will be flying the flag for Games Workshop.

We have been told that there will be five of their authors at the show - Chris Wraight, Nick Kyme, Andy Hoare, Gav Thorpe and Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Which is quite a collection of talent, when you look at it!

Command Post is the club magazine of the South London Warlords. It is one of the benefits of membership of the club, and is put out 3-6 times a year depending on the amount of shouting the editor is willing to do!

Since we now have a blog, I am going to upload older copies of the magazine... as always with PDFs in GoogleDocs, you should choose File>>Download Original to get better quality. I will gradually upload more magazines for readers, but generally they will be at least 6 months behind the latest issue.
